How can BHSD help move your project along

 BHSD ask critical questions about what we want to create, whether it be a sheet metal bracket, computer part, or electrical cable. We must answer the WHO and the WHAT of design like: What is our goal?  What is the problem to solve? What do we want to design? Who is it for? What is the budget? What are the project requirements?   

 This includes talking to the client or seeking out a specialist to assist with researching what products or solutions already exist.  We also need to know if this product already exist or what technologies might be adaptable to your needs. 

 We brainstorm ideas and develop as many solutions as possible. This is the time to encourage wild ideas and defer judgment! Employ a research group for brainstorming! This is also a good time for a long walk by the beach to collect your thoughts and settle your mind! 

 Revisit the needs, constraints and research from the earlier steps, compare your best ideas, select one solution and make a plan to move forward with it. 

 At this point we use design software like SolidWorks to begin the design process of the prototype.  Building a prototype in the computer and then with cardboard or a 3d printer.  These early versions of the design solution help us to verify whether the design meets the original challenge objectives and give an early presentation to a client. 

 The big question is, “Does it work?” Is it what the client wants?  Does it solve the need? At this stage feedback is of upmost importance and communication with the client and team members is the key to our success. 

 What can we do to make it better?  Create revisions and iterate, iterate, iterate!  At this point we discuss how we can improve the product and create new designs.    And now, REPEAT!
